Note biographique
Prof. Dr. Otthein Rammstedt is emeritus professor of sociology at the sociology department, University of Bielefeld (Germany) and he is best known for being the editor of Georg Simmel’s complete works edited by Suhrkamp-Verlag. He studied sociology in Frankfurt a. M. with Theodor W. Adorno, Max Horkheimer and Gottfried Salomon-Delatour. After his PhD in Münster i. W. with Helmut Schelsky, Rammstedt worked in Dortmund and in Bielefeld as academic assistant with Niklas Luhmann. Rammstedt’s main work focused on the history and the international foundation of sociology, on social movements, violence and political psychology. Among his publications: Sekte und soziale Bewegung. M. 1988; Georg Simmel Gesamtausgabe, 24 voll. (1989-2016). He grounded the international journal «Simmel Studies» (1991- first named «Simmel Newsletter»). He is the president of the “Georg Simmel-Society”.
