The editors welcome submissions of scholarly articles on any aspect of Canadian literature as well as interviews with contemporary Canadian authors in whom there is an established academic interest. Submissions may be in English or French; articles should be between 6000 and 8000 words (including Notes and Works Cited), and interviews between 4500 and 7000 words.

Manuscripts must be submitted as an email attachment (Word or RTF) to scl@unb.ca. Submissions are blind-vetted; please ensure that there is no information identifying the author anywhere on the manuscript (including Notes, Acknowledgements, etc.).

References for English-language articles must conform to the MLA Handbook, 7th edition or the MLA Style Manual, 3rd edition. Articles in French should conform to Le guide du rédacteur (du Bureau de la traduction, 2 éd., Ottawa, 1996). Prospective contributors are encouraged to consult the SCL/ÉLC Style Guide (available on our Web site) for further details of style and formatting requirements in English or French.

Copyright on published articles remains the prop­erty of individual contributors, but permission to reprint in whole or in part must be obtained from the editors.

Entries must be original and unpublished elsewhere. No simultaneous submissions.

Do not put your name and address on your manuscript. Include a cover page that has on it the entry’s title(s), the category your entry goes in, and your name and contact information.

All entries must be submitted by mail. No faxed, digital, or emailed submissions are allowed.

Word-processed or typed entries only.

Manuscripts will not be returned. Please keep a copy of your entry.

One short-fiction entry is one story (6,000 words maximum). Short-fiction entries should be double spaced and paginated.

One poetry entry is up to 3 poems; no more than 100 lines per poem. Poems may be single spaced. If a poem is longer than one page, please make sure that each page is numbered and has the poem’s title on it.

Deadline: postmarked by 1 December 2011

Entry Fee: $30 for an entry from Canada and $36 for an international entry. The entry fee includes a one-year subscription to The Fiddlehead. Already a subscriber? — you’ll receive a one-year extension to your current subscription or you can chose to gift a friend.

Multiple entries are allowed; however, each entry must be accompanied by its own cover letter and entry fee.

Contest winners will be contacted directly before the end of February 2012. All entrants receive a copy of The Fiddlehead’s spring issue with the winning entries. The winners are also posted on the Fiddlehead website.

The Fiddlehead occasionally swaps its subscription list with other literary organizations. If you don’t wish to be included in such exchanges, please state this on your entry’s cover page.

The winning entries will be published in the Spring 2012 issue of The Fiddlehead (No. 251) and on our web site. The winning authors will be paid for publication in addition to their prizes.
