Résumé
Refusant les lois génériques et énonciatives du journal intime, Journal du dehors est un «anti-journal intime» (Ernaux) dans lequel le «je» de la scriptrice s'esquive souvent au profit de voix anonymes qu'elle fait entendre. L'orchestration habile des instances énonciatives crée une pluralité de discours où l'intime se fait public, l'individuel s'exprime de façon anonyme, et le personnel devient transpersonnel. L'ambiguïté, voire la porosité, du «je » est mise en évidence dans un extrait où la scriptrice se compare à une prostituée. Loin d'être incongrue, l'analogie déconcertante s'avère bien fondée, car elle relie trois fils conducteurs du texte : désir, argent et littérature. Prenant cette figuration extrême de la scriptrice comme point de départ, l'article étudie la façon dont les femmes sont représentées dans ce texte où s'entrecroisent paroles d'autrui et de soi.
Abstract
Journal du dehors by Annie Ernaux is an atypical diary: instead of exploring the self, the enunciating subject concentrates on "the other" as seen in large super-markets, in the "no man's land" (Ernaux) of a Parisian suburb which transforms individuals into anonymous crowd, and in commuter trains. Her gaze penetrates this mass and singles out those who usually go unnoticed: a cashier, an older woman lost in the mall, beggars etc. By selecting andjuxtaposing scenes of marginal people ant their counterparts — those who, supposedly, belong to the intellectual, political, or economic "elite" — the observer's own subjective positioning emerges slowly: writing (about) the other is always also writing (about) the self.
