Résumé
Il est d'abord suggéré que la dialectique matérialiste, comme théorie de la connaissance mais aussi comme méthode de pensée, a été contrainte à évoluer au contact du développement des sciences. En particulier, la théorie des jeux et celle des catastrophes permettent l'étude de certains processus conflictuels sans qu'il soit nécessaire de recourir à la notion de « dialectique ». À l'inverse, la géographie de la perception tente de se dégager d'un certain behaviorisme. Ceci apparaît possible à condition de reformuler les rapports entre l'objet perçu et le sujet pensant. C'est ici que la méthode dialectique acquiert toute sa pertinence.

Abstract
It is first proposed that materialist dialectic, as a theory of knowledge, but also as a method of thinking, has evolved due to identifiable developments in the sciences. In particular, game theory and catastrophe theory deal with certain conflictual processes without even using the notion of dialectic. Conversely, the geography of perception tries to go beyond behaviorism. This appears possible if the relations between the object of perception and the thinking subject are reformulated using such dialectical categories as the notion of contradiction, when studying, for example, the links between « what is » and « what could be ».
