Résumé
La géographie reproduit sur le mode scientifique un ensemble de façons de voir tirées de l'expérience commune de l'humanité. Déjà dans la Genèse, on peut déceler une conscience de l'espace. Mais c'est chez Descartes que l'on peut trouver l'archétype mental de la saisie du monde par les géographes. On en arrive ainsi à suggérer une origine à la « survalorisation » dans la tradition géographique, du contenant, de son étude et de celle des limites au détriment du contenu. Les fondements des liens étroits qui unissent l'État et les géographes sont ainsi identifiés. Les géographes ne se croient-ils pas au centre du monde? Ne sont-ils pas des observateurs qui tendent à substituer une image, une forme à la réalité ? Ceci semble évoluer. La géographie bénéficie d'une idéologie de base, d'une certaine façon de conceptualiser l'espace, mais elle ne saurait avoir le monopole de son étude.

Abstract
Geography reproduces scientifically a whole array of ways of seeing things drawn from the common heritage of humanity. In the Genesis, one can already perceive a conscience of space. But it is in the works of Descartes that can be found a mental archetype of the geographers' perception of the world. This leads to the suggestion of an origin for the overemphasis, in the geographical tradition, on form and limits rather than substance. The foundations of the close links between the State and the geographers are therefore identified. Don't geographers consider themselves to be at the center of the world? Are they not observers that tend to substitute an image, a form to reality? This seems to change. Geography still retains a basic ideology, a certain way of conceptualizing space but it should not have a monopoly over its study.
