Résumé
À partir du constat d’une perte d’épaisseur de l’éthique en archéologie – « ethical-washing » par lequel l’éthique se voit restreinte à la production d’enregistrements de données archéologiques d’une part et à la communication sociale d’entreprise d’autre part –, cet article examine l’évolution de la profession d’archéologue et sa perte de sens subjective. En s’appuyant sur un cas concret d’expérience de travail sous contrat dans l’archéologie de sauvetage au Royaume-Uni et sur des entretiens avec des professionnels de l’archéologie préventive en France, il interroge l’influence de la rhétorique managériale, liée au néocapitalisme, dans cette dynamique. Il conclut en proposant de premières pistes de résistance de l’archéologie et des archéologues à la soumission aux impératifs de développement portés par les aménageurs, discutées avec le public du colloque « Archéo-Ethique ».

Abstract
Based on the observation of a loss of thickness in archaeological ethics – “ethical-washing” by which ethics is restricted to the production of records of archaeological data on the one hand, and to corporate social communication on the other – this article examines the evolution of the archaeological profession and its loss of subjective meaning. Based on a concrete case of contract work experience in rescue archaeology in the United Kingdom, and interviews with professionals in preventive archaeology in France, this article questions the influence on this dynamic of a managerial rhetoric linked to neocapitalism. It concludes by proposing for archaeology and archaeologists, some means to resist submission to the development imperatives of planners, discussed with the public at the “Archaeo-Ethics” conference.
