Résumé
Cette étude exploratoire vise à identifier divers profils de parentalité chez les mères québécoises d’enfants de 0-8 ans, ainsi qu’à examiner les associations entre ces profils, la violence familiale envers les enfants (agression psychologique, violence physique mineure et violence physique sévère) et la demande d’aide en matière de soutien à la parentalité. Deux échantillons indépendants formés de mères d’enfants de 0-8 ans et 11 mois (N = 2501 en 2014 et N = 3120 en 2017) ont été questionnés par entrevue téléphonique sur plusieurs aspects de la parentalité et sur leurs caractéristiques socioéconomiques. Des analyses de classes latentes (LCA) ont permis de dégager quatre profils qui se distinguent principalement quant aux conditions d’exercice de la parentalité. Une régression multinomiale utilisant le profil le plus favorisé comme catégorie de référence montre des associations positives entre la violence physique mineure et les trois profils plus vulnérables. Cependant, les associations entre l’agression psychologique et ces trois profils sont négatives, suggérant que cette forme de violence est moins prévalente. La violence physique sévère n’est associée à aucun profil, alors que la demande d’aide est associée positivement aux deux profils les plus vulnérables. Ces résultats convergent avec ceux d’autres recherches suggérant que les familles à risque de violence psychologique se distinguent de celles à risque de violence physique envers les enfants. Ils nous invitent à ne pas oublier les familles apparemment moins vulnérables dans nos efforts de prévention, car ce sont celles qui paraissent les plus à risque de violence psychologique.

Abstract
The purpose of this exploratory study was to identify various parenting profiles among Quebec mothers of children aged 0-8 years, as well as to examine the associations between these profiles, family violence against children (psychological violence, minor physical violence, and severe physical violence), and the demand for help with parenting support. Two independent samples of mothers of children aged 0-8 years (N = 2501 in 2014 and N = 3120 in 2017) were asked about several aspects of parenting and their socioeconomic characteristics by telephone interview. Latent class analyses (LCA) identified four profiles that differed primarily on parenting conditions. A multinomial regression using the most advantaged profile as the reference category showed positive associations between minor physical violence and the three more vulnerable profiles. However, the associations between psychological violence and these three profiles are negative, suggesting that this form of violence is less prevalent. Severe physical violence is not associated with any profile, while help-seeking is positively associated with the two most vulnerable profiles. These results converge with those of other research suggesting that families at risk of psychological violence are different from those at risk of physical violence against children. They invite us not to forget the seemingly less vulnerable families in our prevention efforts, because they are the ones who seem to be at the greatest risk of psychological violence.
