Mandate

The primary objective of the journal Les Ateliers de l’éthique/The Ethics Forum is to publish high-level research articles dealing with normative issues that concern ethics in different fields. In addition to publishing only original articles of the highest quality, the journal distinguishes itself by the multidisciplinary character of its authors as well as by its commitment to turn ethics into a field of study whose theoretical issues call for the participation of researchers from several disciplinary horizons. The journal publishes articles in French in order to disseminate the work of francophone scholars and to make international research in contemporary ethics available to the francophone public. It is also important to the journal to create the conditions for a dialogue between francophone and non-francophone authors, which is why it is entirely bilingual, publishing as many articles in English as in French.

Themes

The journal covers the three branches of interdisciplinary research in ethics: the foundations of ethics, normative ethics, and applied ethics. Thus, the journal publishes articles bearing on the study of the foundations of this field and its main concepts, including agents’ moral psychology as well as the nature of deliberation and the emotions. It also publishes articles on the normative dimensions of public policies and social practices in areas as varied as health, the management of the human and natural environment, commerce, social and cultural diversity, justice, education, feminist studies, North-South relations, etc. Lastly, the journal publishes articles on many topics of research in applied ethics, such as business ethics, animal ethics, and bioethics. Of course, individual articles or issues not infrequently span several of these categories and sub-fields.

Open Access Statement

The journal allows readers to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full text of its articles and allow readers to use them for any other lawful purpose.

Our journal is operating under an open access policy, primarily to facilitate access to scientific knowledge. Our goal is to publish articles in French and English on cutting edge topics in all areas related to ethics, and make them readily accessible to researchers and teachers from everywhere and to a wider audience who’s interested in this kind of research.

Submission & Instructions to authors

Articles will be submitted via email at eliot.italien@umontreal.ca. The paper must be formatted in Times New Roman 12 point, single space.

Instructions to authors are available at this address. Papers not following these will be automatically rejected.

The journal charges no fees for submission or processing of the articles.

Peer-Review Process

All articles submitted to the journal are evaluated by a committee of at least two anonymous peers, chosen by the editor of the journal and the administrative coordinator. At times, when needed, they will consult the Board of referees to help them out.

It is primarily the anonymous evaluations that determine the fate of the article.

An article that receives two positive evaluations is systematically published.
An article that receives a positive evaluation and an one requiring minor or major corrections may not be published. The decision is taken by the editor of the journal, which sometimes uses the editorial committee to advise its decision.
An article that receives two evaluations requiring major corrections is not published, but the author is invited to revise and resubmit the paper.
Finally, an article that receives two negative evaluations is formally rejected.

Policy on copyright, publishing rights, and Self-archiving

The author holds copyright as well as the publishing rights without restrictions. The author is free to republish (self-archiving) the postprint version produced by the journal provided he or she indicates the reference to the journal and offers a link to the original publication (on Érudit).

Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism occurs if someone intentionally copies others work or someone copies content without providing the appropriate references. This also includes self-plagiarism, when someone copy her or his own previously published either in full or in part, without providing appropriate references.

All the submitted manuscripts for publication are checked for plagiarism after submission and before starting review. Les ateliers de l’éthique/The Ethics Forum will judge any case of plagiarism according to these criteria. If plagiarism is detected, either by the editors, peer reviewers or editorial staff at any stage before publication of a manuscript - before or after acceptance, during editing or at a page proof stage, we will alert the author(s) and will ask them to either rewrite the text or quote the text exactly and cite the original source. If more than 25% of the paper is plagiarized - the manuscript will be rejected without editorial review. The authors are advised to revise the plagiarized parts of the manuscript and submit it anew. If plagiarism is detected after publication, the journal editorial office will contact the author's institute and funding agencies. The paper containing the plagiarism will be marked on each page of the PDF. Depending on the extent of the plagiarism (more than 25%), the paper may also be formally retracted.

Le plagiat survient lorsque le contenu du travail d’un autre auteur est intentionnellement copié sans fournir les références appropriées. Cela inclut aussi l'autoplagiat, soit lorsque quelqu'un copie son propre travail faisant déjà l’objet d’une publication, en totalité ou en partie, sans fournir les références appropriées.

Tous les manuscrits soumis pour publication sont vérifiés pour plagiat après la soumission et avant d’en commencer l’évaluation. Les ateliers de l'éthique/The Ethics Forum jugera tous les cas de plagiat en fonction des critères suivants. Si le plagiat est détecté, soit par les rédacteurs, les évaluateurs anonymes ou le personnel de rédaction, à tout moment avant la publication d'un manuscrit - avant ou après l'acceptation, lors de la mise en page ou à l’étape des épreuves de correction, nous allons aviser l'auteur et lui demanderons soit de réécrire le texte ou de reproduire la citation exacte et de citer la source originale. Si plus de 25% du texte est plagié, le manuscrit sera rejeté sans examen éditorial. Les auteurs seront invités à réviser les parties plagiées du manuscrit et à le soumettre à nouveau. Si le plagiat est détecté après la publication, le comité éditorial de la revue communiquera avec l’institution d’affiliation et les organismes de financement de l'auteur. Le document contenant le plagiat sera identifié comme tel sur chaque page du PDF jusqu’à ce que les révisions adéquates soient apportées. Selon l'ampleur du plagiat (plus de 25%), le papier peut également être formellement retiré de la publication
